Description of physical medicine and rehabilitation program

Title of the Program: Physical medicine and Rehabilitation

Language of study: English

Degree awarded after completion of the program: Bachelor of Physical medicine

The volume of the programme: 240 ECTS(1 ECTS Credit equals to 25 hours), 60 ECTS per year, 30 ECTS per semester.

The duration of the program is 4 academic years (8 semesters).

Semester includes XX studying weeks.

Prerequisites for admission to the program

a) Holders of a document certifying the completion of general education or its equivalent, who have obtained the right to study at the university based on the Unified National Examinations.

b) Foreign citizens and stateless persons (except for persons who are citizens of Georgia at the same time) who have received general secondary or equivalent education in Georgia according to foreign or international programs recognized by Georgia"

c) Georgian citizens who have received full general education or its equivalent abroad and who studied the last two years of general education abroad.

d) Foreign citizens (except students participating in joint higher education programs or exchange educational programs) who are studying/have studied and have obtained credits/qualifications at a foreign higher educational institution recognized according to the legislation of that country.

e) Georgian citizens (except students participating in joint higher education programs or exchange educational programs) who have lived/studied abroad for a period defined by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Georgia and have obtained credits/qualifications from a foreign higher educational institution recognized by that country's legislation.

f) Mobility students who have been enrolled at the university under Order No. N10/n (04.02.2010) of the Minister, in accordance with the procedure for transferring from one higher education institution to another.

The University holds an exam with the prospective students who have the right to study without passing the Unified Entry Examinations. These persons are required to confirm their English language proficiency at B1.

Student is obliged to confirm the B2 level of English before start clinical disciplines.

Purpose of the program

The goal of the program is to prepare qualified, competitive physical medicine bachelors, who will have appropriate knowledge and will be equipped with skills and professional values - which are in demand for Georgia and the world market in modern reality. Aims are:

  1. To achieve the innovative and in-depth knowledge in physical medicine and rehabilitation sciences.
  2. To acquire the clinical and research skills the appropriate level of education.
  3. To prepare for continuous learning and development for future professional growth.

Learning Outcomes

Graduate:

1

Possesses general knowledge in the field of basic and modern physical medicine and rehabilitation, natural sciences, behavioral and health care.

Describes in detail the role of physical medicine and rehabilitation in the process of maintaining and restoring human health.

analyzes the modern methods and approaches in physical medicine rehabilitation and uses modern information and communication technologies;

4

Assesses the physical condition, establishes an individual plan of physical therapy taking into account physical factors and using basic kinesiotherapy and physical therapy techniques.

Develops and implements a research/practical project/work specific to the field of rehabilitation and presents it in forms and technologies appropriate for the context;

Selects the duration and intensity of rehabilitation measures and implements physical rehabilitation in practice, which ultimately improves the patient's quality of life.

On the basis of data analysis, it will provide patient-oriented high-quality rehabilitation care, taking into account interprofessional relations, in order to improve the patient's quality of life.

Establishes an action plan for own learning process and professional development in accordance with identified needs.

The graduate student will acquire general transferable skills along with the field one experience:

  1. Knowledge of fundamental issues of foreign language and awareness of the necessity of continuous updating of the latter.
  2. Critical evaluation of data, independent analysis, written communication skills, participation in discussions, and negotiation in a professional context.

Assessment of student achievement

As a rule, the achievement of the student's assessment is carried out by assessment forms:

  • Intermediate (multiple) evaluation: 60% of the maximum evaluation
  • Intermediate exam grade: 20% of the maximum grade
  • Final (one-time) assessment: 40% of the maximum assessment

 

Assessment Methods (assessment tools): Laboratory Work, MCQ, OSCE, Practical work, Oral assessment, Question-Answer (Q/A), Presentation, Practical procedure assessment, Role play, bachelor project and other. (See syllabuses);

Assessment Criteria: Assessment methods are measured by assessment criteria, which determine the level of achievement of learning outcomes and are detailed in the relevant syllabi.

Each form/component of assessment has a minimum competency threshold, which, depending on the peculiarities of the course and the interest in achieving learning outcomes, may differ from one course to another, considering that the minimum competency threshold for final assessment should not exceed 60% of the final assessment.

Minimal components of assessment should be done.

• Students are allowed to take the final exam if they have obtained a minimum passing score in the interim assessments.

The evaluation system allows:

A) Five grades based on a hundred-point scale:

(A) Excellent – Evaluation range 91-100 points;

(B) Very Good – Maximum evaluation range 81-90 points;

(C) Good – Maximum evaluation range 71-80 points;

(D) Satisfactory – Maximum evaluation range 61-70 points;

(E) Sufficient – Maximum evaluation range 51-60 points.

B) The evaluation system includes two negative grades:

(FX) Did Not Pass - Indicates a score of 41-50 points, suggesting that the student needs more effort to pass and is allowed an additional attempt at the exam.

Make up exam will be assigned in 1-5 days since declaration of the results of the final exam. 

(F) Failed - Reflects a score of 40 points or fewer, signifying that the student's work is not satisfactory, and there is insufficient material to assess. The student has the opportunity to retake the exam.

the possibility of continuing education

A graduate of a bachelor's program can continue his / her studies in any master's program of a higher education institution of Georgia or another country, which does not provide a necessary condition for obtaining a bachelor's degree in another field.

The field of employment

After getting "Bachelor of Physical Medicine" academic degree, the possible areas of employment for graduates of the Faculty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation are public and private sectors, sports federations, sports, health and fitness clubs, any healthcare facilities.
